You are asked to demonstrate the relevance and explanatory power of the contending theories in international political economy (IPE). To do so, select a news article from a list of news articles provided for you and analyze it from the perspective of an IPE theory (choosing from economic nationalism, liberalism, and critical perspective). In your analysis, you should do the followings.
1) Briefly summarize the main idea of the article that you have selected.
3) Discuss the main arguments of the theory of your choice. Here you must draw from an appropriate required reading or readings of week 2-3 (such as List for economic nationalism, Keohane and Nye for liberalism) to support your discussion.
4) Explain why the theory of your choice best represent the news article. Make sure to provide sufficient evidence by pointing out traits of the theory in the article.Your analysis should be presented in an essay format, consisting of an introduction, a body and a conclusion. Be creative in crafting a brief introduction that would lead your reader to your analysis and in finishing off your essay with a brief concluding thought.This assignment looks for your ability to apply the knowledge of the required readings and the contending theories in IPE to real issues in the global political economy. Evaluation will be based on the followings.1) Concise and accurate summary of the selected article.
2) Ability to choose a suitable theory that helps explain the article.
3) A good and relevant discussion of the theorys main arguments, that draw effectively from the required reading(s).
4) Perceptive identification of theoretical traits in the article.
5) Good organization and ability to write clearly and coherently.
